Every day I see adverts online and in print that are just plain boring! Long lists of responsibilities and requirements that, quite frankly, make me want to go to sleep and definitely don’t make me want to apply for a job. So – what can you do to get job seekers to read your ad?
Did you know that you only have 3 seconds to make an impression with your
recruitment ads? With thousands of ads online and in newspapers, it is
imperative your ad content excites and entices job seekers enough to read on!
To assist you on your way - here are my five top tips to help you write an ad that
job seekers will read:
Tip 1 – Your ad should excite and entice – focus on
what’s in it for the candidate, not what your company wants
Tip 2 – Be more emotional and less bureaucratic. A new
job is a big decision so be fun and speak to the heart as well as the head.
Tip 3 – Motivate people to read on by starting with three
or four bold statements about the job or reasons to work for you
Tip 4 – Include the benefits on offer. Money is only half
the story for many candidates… what else makes you a great place to work?
Tip 5 – Above all else, don’t just describe the role,
sell it! It’s called job advertising not job “descriptioning”
Hope this helps with your next job advert.
